Beth Doglio and Lisa Parshley will return to Olympia to represent the 22nd Legislative District in the state House after winning their respective seats by double-digit margins on Nov. 3.
Doglio, a Democrat, won Position 1 with 35,298 votes, or 72.2%, to Republican Don Hewett's 13,451 votes, or 27.5%, according to unofficial results from the Washington Secretary of State. That amounts to a 44.7-percentage-point margin with all reporting units counted. Write-in candidates received 115 votes.
In Position 2, Parshley, also a Democrat, defeated fellow Democrat Jamie Keenan-deVargas with 30,267 votes, or 68.8%, to Keenan-deVargas's 12,526 votes, or 28.5%. The margin was 40.3 percentage points. Write-in candidates received 1,216 votes. A total of 44,009 votes were counted in that race.
The 22nd District covers Olympia, Tumwater and Lacey.
What was at stake
Both incumbents chair or hold leadership roles on key House committees. Doglio stated in a candidate questionnaire that she chairs the House Environment & Energy Committee and serves on the Appropriations and State Government & Tribal Relations committees. Parshley serves as vice chair of the Capital Budget Committee, according to her campaign.
The key issues:
- Doglio said she sought re-election to address housing costs, energy bills, health care, public education and climate change in the district.
- Parshley has championed bargaining rights for public employees facing the rollout of artificial intelligence in their workplaces, according to her campaign website.
- Parshley also voted for what her campaign described as the Millionaires' Tax to fund free school meals, sales tax exemptions for over-the-counter medications and hygiene products, and expansion of the Working Families Tax Credit.
As we reported Nov. 5, House Democrats entered the election holding 59 seats and needing seven more for a two-thirds supermajority, the Seattle Times reported. All 98 House seats were on the ballot.
A little history
Doglio has served in the 22nd District's Position 1 seat across two stints: 2017–2020 and 2023–present, according to her candidate questionnaire. She also works at Climate Solutions, a Northwest clean-energy nonprofit where she has spent about 20 years.
Parshley, a board-certified veterinary oncologist, introduced HB 1445, the Washington Health Trust, a statewide universal health care proposal, in her first term, according to her campaign.
Position 2 drew two Democrats rather than a cross-party matchup. Statewide, multiple Democrat-on-Democrat contests played out this cycle, the Seattle Times reported, with challengers framing themselves as the more progressive alternative.
What's next
These results remain unofficial. County auditors will continue processing additional ballots, with the Secretary of State scheduled to certify official results on Dec. 3, Fox 13 Seattle reported.
