The Evergreen State College volleyball team claimed its first Cascade Collegiate Conference win of the season Saturday, Sept. 26, sweeping Warner Pacific 25-11, 25-16, 25-13 at the Costantino Recreation Center.
The Geoducks recorded 36 kills and hit .333 as a team in the three-set win, according to results posted on ThurstonTalk.
Senior setter Jayden Vaimaona ran the offense with 20 assists and four service aces while adding eight digs. Junior Riley Mangan supplied 10 assists.
Senior outside hitter Sophia Scroggins led the attack with nine kills, three aces and a .400 hitting percentage on just one attacking error. Freshman middle blocker Annalise Orlowski, a 6-foot Sandy, Oregon, product, added eight kills in her first year with the program.
Graduate student Makayla Kelly and junior Bright Brubaker each contributed five kills. Junior Zofia Formella posted four kills with zero errors for a .500 hitting percentage.
Formella also led the defense with nine digs. Sophomore Jaci Yamada recorded seven digs and two aces, and junior Paron Holmes added six digs and two aces.
No set was close. Evergreen won the opener 25-11, controlled the second 25-16 and closed the match 25-13.
The victory moved Evergreen to 2-10 overall and 1-7 in the CCC. The Geoducks had been winless in conference play at 0-7 before Saturday, including a sweep loss at Northwest University on Thursday, Sept. 24. Warner Pacific dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-8 in the CCC.
Evergreen travels to Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Oregon, on Friday, Oct. 2, for a 7 p.m. start.
