Drivers on Fones Road in east Olympia will hit partial lane closures the week of Monday, Oct. 19, as crews install concrete pads for garbage and recycling collection near the Home Depot roundabout.
The work will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fones Road south of the compact roundabout, according to a construction alert the Olympia Public Works Department issued Oct. 15, first reported by The JOLT. Emergency vehicles and school buses will be allowed through the work zone.
"Residents at the south end of Fones Road may experience minor delays exiting or entering driveways as this work is completed," the department said.
The concrete-pad work is part of the $24.5 million Fones Road Corridor Project, which broke ground in November 2024. Olympia is paying more than $13 million. The remaining $11 million-plus comes from state and federal grants, according to the city's project page.
Crews closed a stretch of Fones Road overnight on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 for utility work and path striping. Road construction on the corridor is scheduled to end in fall 2026.
