Three downtown Olympia businesses that faced closure have reopened in new locations or new formats.

Walrus and Kitten Vintage moved from Fourth Avenue East to a larger space at 313 Fifth Ave. SE. Radiance Herbs & Massage and Kindred Moon Apothecary reopened across the street at 106 Fifth Ave. SE in late August. Former Wayside Cafe co-owner Jamelle Parker, known as "Zsa Zsa," dropped the storefront model, shifting to a commissary kitchen that supplies vegan food to stores across the region.

The Olympian first reported on the three businesses' transitions on Thursday, Sept. 17.

Wayside Cafe goes mobile

The cafe closed July 18, ending an eight-year run in downtown Olympia. But Parker told The Olympian that demand for Wayside's vegan food continued. She just couldn't keep a brick-and-mortar operation going.

"I turned it into a different business," she said.

She now produces vegan mac and cheese, cakes, cold sandwiches, potato salad, pasta salad and salad dressing from a commissary kitchen. The food goes to Olympia Food Co-op locations on the city's westside and eastside, Spuds locations in Tumwater and Olympia, and a food co-op in Yelm.

Parker is also raising money through Venmo to fund food donations distributed to homeless residents through Egyhop, a homeless services nonprofit. Former business partner Kevin Rainsberry continues to run Le Voyeur on Fourth Avenue, according to Parker.

Walrus and Kitten Vintage expands on Fifth Avenue

Owner Tera Roberts opened Walrus and Kitten Vintage on Fourth Avenue East near Plum Street in February. She relocated over the summer to 313 Fifth Ave. SE, Unit B, between Rainy Day Records and Orca Books.

The shop sells clothing, housewares, furniture and accessories. Roberts told The Olympian the bigger space lets her set up separate sections for masculine and feminine clothing, plus dedicated areas for bedroom, kitchen and living room items.

Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays.

Radiance Herbs crosses the street

Radiance Herbs & Massage and Kindred Moon Apothecary made the shortest move of the three. The businesses reopened in late August at 106 Fifth Ave. SE, still on Fifth Avenue but on the opposite side of the street, according to a Facebook post by the shop.

The businesses offer herbs, teas, oils and massage services. They are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
