Tumwater's volleyball team broke through for its first victory of the 2026 season Tuesday, Sept. 29, sweeping W.F. West in straight sets.
The Thunderbirds won 25-21, 25-12, 25-21 to improve to 1-6 overall and 1-0 in Evergreen Conference 2A (EvCo 2A) play, according to West 42 Sports. Tumwater had opened the year 0-6 in non-league play after finishing as District 4 runners-up last season.
The second set was the most decisive, with Tumwater pulling away for a 25-12 win after tight 25-21 results in the first and third sets.
W.F. West dropped to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in EvCo 2A.
Tumwater hosts Centralia on Thursday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. in its next league match.
Football: T-Birds 4-0, home streak hits 11
Tumwater's football team is 4-0 and ranked No. 7 in Washington and No. 1 in Class 2A, according to MaxPreps rankings updated Sept. 27.
The Thunderbirds haven't been close to losing. They beat Liberty 41-10 on Sept. 4, shut out Steilacoom 62-0 on Sept. 11, routed Mount Si 48-12 on Sept. 18 and rolled past Woodland 47-7 on Sept. 25. Every game has been decided by at least 31 points.
The home winning streak stands at 11 consecutive games dating to last season. Freshman Logan Bennett has emerged as a key weapon. Against Mount Si, Bennett rushed for 183 yards and a touchdown on 7.6 yards per carry. He and Gabe Millard each intercepted a pass in that game.
