Two punk acts will take over Sylvester Park on July 15 for a night of dance-punk and surf-punk in Olympia's summer concert series.
The show is part of Music in the Park, the Olympia Downtown Alliance's 45-year-old series that fills downtown with live music every Wednesday in July. The July 15 installment, themed "Punk Power," pairs Portland dance-punk project J. Graves with Olympia's own surf-punk band The Proffits.
J. Graves opens at 6 p.m. The Portland-based, queer, non-binary-led project blends angular guitar work, pounding rhythms, and resolute vocals. The Proffits take the stage at 7 p.m. and play until 8 p.m. The Olympia Downtown Alliance bills them as "Olympia surf-punk legends," and the band describes its sound as spooky surf-punk and garage rock.
The concert is free and all-ages. No tickets, no registration.
Sylvester Park sits at 615 Washington St. SE in downtown Olympia. The alliance encourages attendees to bring lawn chairs and blankets, and to grab takeout from nearby downtown restaurants.
The 2026 series marks the 45th anniversary of Music in the Park. New additions include roving performers circulating through the crowd at each show and opening performances spotlighting local talent and community groups, made possible through a partnership with the City of Olympia, according to the Olympia Downtown Alliance.
Music in the Park is presented by Olympia Federal Savings, with support from the City of Olympia and the Port of Olympia.
"For over 40 years OlyFed has been proud to support Music in the Park," said Casey Kilborn, OlyFed's chief relationship officer. Kilborn said the series brings people together while supporting downtown's performing arts and local businesses.
The Music in the Park schedule continues with two more shows after July 15. The third Wednesday concert takes place July 22 at Sylvester Park, and the series finale moves to Port Plaza, 701 Columbia St. NW, on July 29, featuring Erina and Daring Greatly.
