The Evergreen State College soccer season is officially underway after both the women's and men's programs hosted alumni scrimmages Saturday, Aug. 8, at Geoduck Pitch in Olympia.
The alumni squad topped the current women's team 2-0, while the men's side flipped the script and defeated their alumni, according to the Nisqually Valley News. The men's final score was not available.
Third-year head coach Kate Schmidt's women's program enters 2026 ranked 12th in the Cascade Collegiate Conference preseason coaches poll after a 1-13-1 overall record (1-10-1 CCC) last season. The men landed 11th in their own CCC poll, according to GoGeoducks.com.
Who's back
Two returning forwards give the women's side a scoring foundation. Senior Madeline Dorendorf and junior Izzy Widener each netted five goals while playing all 15 games in 2025. Dorendorf added an assist to lead the Geoducks with 11 total points, per the Thurston Chronicle's preseason report.
Both players were on the pitch for the Aug. 8 alumni match.
