Harlequin Productions opens two plays in repertory in October at its downtown Olympia theater: Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" and Martyna Majok's "Sanctuary City."

"Our Town" runs Friday, Oct. 2 through Nov. 1 at 202 4th Ave. E. "Sanctuary City" runs a shorter window, Friday, Oct. 9 through Oct. 25. Both fall under the company's 2026 season, themed "Home/Land."

The season explores stories across the American experience, touching on Indigenous voices, economic displacement, race, environmental legacy and the beauty of ordinary life, according to the season page.

Producing Artistic Director Aaron Lamb directs both productions. On the season page, Lamb said the company has been gathering audiences in its space for 35 years, finding common ground through shared stories, and called that tradition more important than ever "in a world that feels increasingly divided."

The two plays approach the idea of home from different angles. "Our Town" follows daily life in the fictional small town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire. Wilder won the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the play.

"Sanctuary City" is set in post-9/11 Newark, New Jersey, and follows two teenagers brought to America as children who become each other's refuge from harsh circumstances. Majok won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play "Cost of Living."

Harlequin's season page frames the pairing around a pointed question: in a nation built on the promise of opportunity, how do we determine who benefits?
