Two Olympia pumpkin patches are open through Saturday, Oct. 31, with free entry and pumpkins priced at 57 cents a pound at one farm.
Rutledge Family Farm at 302 93rd Ave. SE offers free entry to its pumpkin patch, which features more than 15 varieties at $0.57 per pound, according to KAYO FM. Carving pumpkins, minis, baking pumpkins, white, warty and striped varieties are all available.
The pumpkin patch is open daily. KAYO FM listed hours as 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while the Nisqually Valley News reported weekday and Sunday hours as 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors may want to check rutledgefamilyfarm.com before heading out.
The farm's paid "Fall on the Farm" activities run on a separate schedule. Tickets cost $10 Sunday through Thursday and $13 on Fridays and Saturdays, when activities stay open until 11 p.m., according to KAYO FM. Options include a corn maze, swings, a cattle roping practice station, a bubble barn, a jump pad and a corn cannon on weekends.
Entry to the patch is free.
On Halloween, Rutledge invites kids to visit in costume between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. for trick-or-treating, the Nisqually Valley News reported. Every child receives a free pie pumpkin with paid admission.
Dogs are welcome on non-retractable leashes but are not allowed in the haunted maze.
Pigman's Pumpkin Patch, a U-pick operation on a six-acre vegetable and berry farm at 10633 Steilacoom Rd. SE, is also open through closing day. Hours run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays, according to the farm's website.
Pigman's carries varieties including tiny Jack-be-littles and 100-pound Atlantic giants, along with cannon ball, red Cinderella and white lumina pumpkins, KAYO FM reported. The farm also sells fresh winter vegetables, gourds and corn stalks for fall decorating.
The best pumpkin selection at both farms goes early in the season, the Nisqually Valley News noted.
