Providence Hawks Prairie Immediate Care will see its last walk-in patient on Aug. 21, ending urgent care service at 2555 Marvin Road NE in Lacey after patient visits dropped 15% over the past year.
Providence Swedish confirmed the closure in a July 31 news release, first reported by The Olympian. The health system will convert the space into expanded primary care at the same address, where Hawks Prairie Family Medicine already operates in a separate suite.
Providence attributed the decline to growing competition from other urgent care facilities and the opening of a new emergency department in the area. The system said it sees stronger demand for primary care access and continuity than for walk-in immediate care.
Russ Igoe, chief operating officer of Providence Medical Group, said in the July 31 statement that support is being provided for affected staff, including transition planning and internal job opportunities. Providence did not disclose how many employees work at the clinic.
Where patients can go instead
After Aug. 21, walk-in patients in the Hawks Prairie corridor have nearby options within the Providence system:
- Providence ExpressCare, 1350 Marvin Road NE, Suite D, Lacey — open 8 a.m.–8 p.m., seven days a week
- Providence Lacey Immediate Care, 4800 College St. SE, Lacey — open 8 a.m.–6 p.m., seven days a week (360-493-4710)
- Providence Immediate Care in west Olympia
Primary care expansion
The closure is part of a broader shift toward primary care. Providence Medical Group opened a new clinic on Ensign Road in Olympia, across from Providence St. Peter Hospital, in June. Another clinic is planned for the Tumwater Hill area in early 2027.
Providence said in its news release that once fully built out, the new clinics will bring 14 providers to the community and serve up to 17,500 new patients.
The Hawks Prairie conversion adds capacity at a location already home to family medicine. Providence Hawks Prairie Family Medicine, in Suite A at the same address, is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m.
Providence's website for the Hawks Prairie Immediate Care location did not display a closure notice as of Sunday, Aug. 2.
