Timberland Regional Library will offer a limited-edition library card co-branded with Grammy-winning artist Laufey's global Book Club starting in early September.

The design features the Laufey Book Club crest alongside the TRL logo.

Both new and existing cardholders can pick one up at any TRL branch, including the Olympia and Lacey locations in Thurston County. Limit is one per patron.

The cards are free. Anyone who lives, works or attends school in Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific and Thurston counties qualifies for a TRL card.

Who is Laufey?

Laufey (pronounced "lay-vay"), full name Laufey Lín Jónsdóttir, is a two-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter and New York Times bestselling author of the children's book "Mei Mei The Bunny." She serves as the 2025 spokesperson for Library Card Sign-Up Month, an American Library Association initiative.

Laufey Book Club connects readers worldwide through shared monthly book selections and online meetings. In 2025, a pilot initiative paired collaborative cards with five library systems: Los Angeles County, Boston, Phoenix, Fulton County and Reykjavík. That pilot broke most of those systems' single-day signup records, the TRL release stated.

"… I've kind of made it my life's mission to make spaces like that fun and accessible," Laufey told the Los Angeles Times on Aug. 16, speaking about her effort to bring Gen Z audiences into cultural institutions at her annual fan event, not about the TRL card specifically.

How to get one

Each TRL branch will announce on its social media channels when the cards arrive. No specific launch date beyond "early September" has been announced. Residents can check branch hours at TRL.org/Locations.

The launch coincides with Library Card Sign-Up Month in September, a national push by the American Library Association (ALA) to encourage library use. TRL's media contact for the partnership is Anna Lisa Rasmussen, the library system's communications and media coordinator.
