Tumwater families can watch movies under the stars for free this summer as the city's Screen on the Green series brings three Friday-night screenings to local parks starting July 17.

The kickoff screening is "Zootopia 2" at Tumwater Valley Municipal Golf Course, 4611 Tumwater Valley Drive SE, on July 17. The film starts at approximately 9 p.m. and runs until about 10:30 p.m., according to the city of Tumwater's events calendar.

Two more dates follow:

Friday, July 24 — "Karate Kid Legends" at Barclift Park (690 Barclift Lane SE). The movie runs approximately 9:10–10:50 p.m. Before the film, kids and families can compete in a Chopstick Tournament and grab a free headband giveaway while supplies last. Kona Ice will be on site.

Friday, August 7 — "Wicked: For Good" at Kindred Park (9168 Aster Street SE). Showtime is approximately 8:30–10:30 p.m. Pre-movie activities include a magic wand-making station, a Wicked activity kit, and a visit from Elphaba.

Kona Ice returns for this screening too. The city of Tumwater said on its Facebook page that the August film was chosen by a public Facebook vote.

All three screenings are free. Movies begin at dusk.

What to bring: A blanket or low-backed chair. Pack a picnic if you like.

What to leave home: Grills, umbrellas, and pets are not permitted at any screening.

The series is open to all Thurston County residents and families looking for a no-cost summer evening out.
