More than 70 organizations will set up shop Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Thurston County Resource Hub Block Party, offering free vaccines, haircuts, showers, vet care and a hot dog lunch to anyone who shows up.

The third annual event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 910 24th Way SW in Olympia, just steps from the Resource Hub building at 929 Lakeridge Drive SW. No registration is required.

Last year's block party drew more than 400 community members and connected them with roughly 175 service providers, according to Thurston County. County data from the 2025 event show 58 children were seen, 134 vaccines were administered and 66 Community Health Assessments were completed.

This year's free services include childhood immunizations for kids ages 4 to 18, blood pressure and health screenings, veterinary care and pet grooming, haircuts for adults and children, showers, books and DSHS (Department of Social and Health Services) mobile services. Eight mobile units will be on site. Raffle prizes will be drawn every 30 minutes, and attendees can volunteer for a blood drive.

The event will also feature music and games.

The Olympia Timberland Library, one of the participating organizations, described the block party as the largest resource fair in Thurston County in a July 29 Instagram post.

Thurston County Public Health & Social Services said on Instagram on July 27 that dozens of local organizations will come together to provide free services and connect community members with resources all in one place.

The Resource Hub itself operates year-round as a drop-in center at the Thurston County Courthouse Complex, serving people with behavioral health needs who are involved in the justice system. It is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers housing resources, mental health and substance use assessments, employment services and healthcare connections. The center is accessible via Intercity Transit bus routes 12 and 42.
