Roller-skating parrots, border collie athletes, and a 25-foot rock wall are among the weekly attractions now running at the Hands On Children's Museum in downtown Olympia as part of its summer festival program.
The festival launched Tuesday, June 23, and continues through Monday, September 7, with a rotating lineup of performers and activities each week. Circus performers, sand carvers, and visiting artists round out the schedule.
Admission is $19.95, and individual festival activities are included with admission or membership.
The first confirmed special guest: Parrot Ambassadors from the Flight Club Foundation arrive Saturday, June 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The birds will soar overhead, roller skate, talk, and even recycle, according to the museum's event page.
Other recurring activities include Fort Building Friday, where kids use natural materials to construct forts. That program is sponsored by Seattle Children's Olympia Clinic.
The festival is presented by WSECU.
The museum is at 414 Jefferson St. NE, Olympia. Hours for the weekly festival events are listed as 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on ThurstonTalk's event calendar, though families should confirm current hours at hocm.org. The museum's phone number is (360) 956-0818.
More special guests and activities will be added throughout the summer. Families can check hocm.org for the latest calendar.
